Did you notice that every single person on that train is using a piece of technology to remove themselves from their environment? Which leaves us with Steve literally going backwards, in a crowd of people who are metaphorically turning their backs on him, and alienated from a system which everyone else understands. And he has nothing to do with his hands.

Punch Something.
So let’s be honest here—one of the reasons I wish I was employed is that I wouldn’t have to spend all my time thinking about what I really want in life, and what my goals are, and I could just have a routine that maintains what I need. It’s intellectually lazy. I’m better than that. But reflecting on the shortcomings of yourself and the universe every day is exhausting, not to mention depressing. It would be nice to have an easy and socially-acceptable out.

nobody knows it but you’ve got a secret smile and you use it only for me
His sweet mocking mouth had one kiss on it that Steve could never get, though there it was, perfectly conspicuous in the right-hand corner.

American Girl vs The Avengers!
Drawing wild parallels is one of the things I do best… so without further ado, here are the Avengers and their American Girl counterparts, presented for your pleasure.

Felicity Merriman is Steve Rogers/Captain America! Of the whole crew of American Girls, Felicity is arguably the most American of them all. She’s certainly the most Stars-And-Stripes-Forever, having lived during the American Revolution, so it wasn’t too hard to pair her with Cap. Plus we all know Cap would look great in those elbow-length sleeves with the little ruffles.

Kirsten Larson is Thor! The Scandinavian connection is undoubtedly present, but there’s more to it than that. Kirsten leaves the land of her birth and arrives in America. Her best friend, who is like a sister to her, dies, and she spends a lot of time grieving. She likes adventures, and food, and is generally a good girl who is loyal to her parents. Also she almost gets hit by a buggy.

Samantha Parkington is Tony Stark/Iron Man! Poor little rich girl! Tony and Samantha both lost their parents at a young age, have issues with parental figures, and have a lot of money. They’re both rather scrappy and get scolded by people when they come inside covered in scrapes and bruises. They both like to help out the less fortunate, and they both have a fascination with cars.

Molly McIntire is Bruce Banner/Hulk! They both get carried away by anger sometimes, but generally they are nice, smart people. They both wear glasses. And they are the people who somehow, against all probability, hold their groups of friends together.

Josefina Montoya is Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow! Um. Natasha is foreign? And Josefina is technically Mexican, because New Mexico hadn’t been annexed by the United States by 1824? I think Josefina would look awesome in the Black Widow outfit. Moving on.

Addy Walker is Clint Barton/Hawkeye! Now, everything I know about Clint’s backstory has come from fanfiction, but I am fairly certain that he grew up in a circus, and that means than neither he nor Addy had easy, settled childhoods. Plus I like to imagine him as having grown up in the South. He’s just good at hiding it. Both he and Addy are good at blending in and hiding in plain sight. And when they come North/join SHIELD, they get new outfits!

Kaya (Kaya’aton’my’) is Loki! They both: get in lots of trouble, are super annoyed with their siblings, are occasionally boastful about their skills, and have great hair. Kaya is the only American Girl who is not an immigrant, or descended from one. Loki is the only Jotun in his family. (According to my AG book, the origin story of the Nez Perce involves them springing from the heart’s blood of a marauding monster. Cool, eh?) And they both really love horses.
BONUS!!

Kit Kittredge is Agent Phil Coulson! Look at these faces. They are as wholesome as apple pie. You’d never guess at their hidden depths. Or maybe you would, I don’t know. They’re both optimistic in the face of giant setbacks—in Kit’s case, the Great Depression, and in Coulson’s, a group of super-powered individuals who mix like oil and water. And Coulson would look fabulous in Kit’s hat.
Thanks to Geese In Flight, ELS, and KalliopeStarmist for their help with the list! You guys are an inspiration.

TFTA: Texts From the Avengers
As a Texts From Last Night connoisseur, let me say “YES.”
Although, this fandom seems to do gifs of everything, which in this case is a bit gratuitous.
